There is a Reason Pessimists Often Stay Pessimistic

There are three main reality types in our world. One is the "optimist" who is constantly seeing the world with the "glass half full". Another is the "realist" who looks at each situation and calculates what is positive and what is deemed negative with each one. Often the "realist" calculates the risk of all experiences. Finally there is the pessimist who often views the world as the "glass half empty."

What is the reason these reality types stay within their conviction of seeing the world the way they do? The reason, our mind likes to say "I Told You So!". It does so by seeking out validation in our daily life which reinforces it's belief. Our mind rejects that which is foreign to its thought process by way of ignoring it. This process happens by default and unless aware of it, is difficult to change.

As an example, when we buy a new car. The moment we drive the car off the lot we have introduced it in our reality. At this point, as we drive, we notice many other people driving the same car! It becomes very noticeable and apparent in our daily life. The cars themselves have always been there, it is only now, when we have taken notice. Before this point our mind ignored the stimuli of the car because it was unimportant and outside of our reality. The moment it was introduced, our brain looked for validation by seeking out other cars which were the same.

Another example could be when a woman becomes pregnant or wishes desperately to have a baby. As they go about their day, they notice many other women who are pregnant or have new born babies. They are bombarded with this stimulus keeping their mindset strong of being pregnant or wanting to be.

Next is a short story titled "Red Light / Green Light" which is an excerpt taken from my book "I Believe Therefore I Am".

Two individuals are at point “A” and both must get to point “B” within half an hour. Both individuals are driving down the road and take the exact same route. Both individuals come to five different intersections before reaching their destination. Upon arrival at their destination one says, “I am here” while the other person exclaims, “Well, that was timed perfectly. Green lights the entire way!”

The difference between an optimistic reality and a pessimistic reality is the optimistic person noticed the five green lights! Both left at the same time, both took the same route, and both came to the intersections. Both received the same opportunities. It is the optimistic person who noticed!

This is a perfect example of the way our mind focuses on what it recognizes as truth. The pessimistic person feels or believes that life is meant to be difficult or perhaps is anticipating a bad day. When the pessimist is focused on difficult times, they fail to notice the advantages available to them. The optimistic person, on the other hand, is open to possibilities and is therefore more likely to notice small blessings that surround him or her on a daily basis. In this instance, the small blessings were the five green lights.

This interesting phenomenon happens every day and therefore each individual is performing this action by default. A person can only change their reality when they become aware of what they are focused on. What they are focused on is a mirror image to what they believe. It is also for this reason an optimistic person has a difficult time understanding or being around a pessimistic personality.

To break free of the pessimistic outlook begin to notice what your mind is focused on in your daily life. When you notice something which you believe to be negative, treat it as radar telling you your belief is out of alignment to what you truly desire! When you notice, consciously switch your focus by reminding yourself of what it is you are actively creating. Which is a life of opportunity and personal fulfillment?!

I shall leave this with you now and ask one question "Are you ready to believe?"

1 Thing to Turn Disabled into Able!

Having a disability has its challenges.   I know this because I too live with a disability called Fibre Type Disproportion Myopathy.  Waking up every day with a reminder of the condition we find ourselves in can be at the very least frustrating to an all out emotional and physical upheaval.

All people are unique and are experiencing their own life.  We have our strengths and capabilities which can extend farther than we ever expected.  Each one of us has knowledge, desires, passion and ambition to master our ability to succeed.  One person can be excellent at one thing while another is amazing at something else.  A person living with a disability is the same!

If you are someone living with a disability, know this, you are a strong capable person who can do many wondrous things!  It all comes down to choice.  You can chose to let your limitations get the best of you and continually feel awful about the situation you find yourself in, or, you can choose to do something about it.

When you wake up each day, rather than focus on what you are unable to do, focus on what you can do!  Ask yourself a very important question, “What’s one thing I can do for me today?”  When you know the answer, do it!  Small or large, with grand purpose or simple pleasures, they are all equally important and help to change the mindset of defeat to personal strength and power.

A person reading this article might say, what about those who are quadriplegic?  The answer, they have a voice too!  Ask them questions about who they are and what they enjoy in life.  Empower them to focus on what does bring them joy.  Do this by building a relationship with them.  Ask them to look up for “yes” and down for “no”.  Asking key questions about their personality and what brings them joy can help their mind to visualize and focus on the finer things in life.  If they answer a question such as “do you like balloons?” and they respond with “yes”, bring them balloons!  It makes everyone feel good and at the same time the individual with the disability feels heard!

Always remember, everyone has the ability to do something.  What is yours?  Focus on that and make it happen!  You are amazing and can do it!

Keep smiling that gorgeous smile of yours!

Fear or Bravery - Which Do You Choose?

“A person who lives in fear of failure and prevents their self from moving forward, creates that which s/he most fears.” ~ Claire McGee

With every choice we make, we take action to satisfy the decision.  If we choose to allow fear overcome our desire to reach our goal, we remain stuck in the tormented mind of fear.  Rather than taking one step forward we remain hidden within four cement walls, which I call the “prison cell of life.”  Rather than see creation and all its glory we imprison ourselves within the convents of our mind never to know the truth of what might have been.  Fear destroys dreams and when given power, causes the strongest of minds to fall.  It is through this, we create that which we fear most.  By never taking the next step, by never really knowing what would be, we create the very thing we fear, lack of fulfillment and in our tortured mind, failure.

To overcome fear is to look it square in the eyes and rebel by doing it anyway.  We can do this by focusing on what amazing things can come of doing it.  The end result of a life of fulfillment, joy, appreciation, love, respect, and a complete self satisfaction of knowing rather than wondering, is what drives us to move forward.  Having this mindset allows us to see all experiences as knowledge and all knowledge is the grand success of learning.  To master anything in life, one must learn from failed results.  This allows one to educate themselves and others on what is to be done in order to make it work.  Some may see this as failure, others, like myself, see it as evolution and progress.

With that said, ask one question today, do you choose to let fear overcome you or do you choose bravery to see it through?  Success is from recognizing the choices and wisdom is from knowing the result.

Have a great day and remember to keep smiling that gorgeous smile of yours!

What We Do Today, Shapes Our Future Experiences

“I can feel guilty about the past, apprehensive about the future, only in the present can I act.  The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.” ~ Abraham Maslow

It is truly fascinating when it’s noticed there are two types of mindsets.  Those who live in the past and reflect on all which has been, good or bad, and those who live in the future hoping for or anticipating good things to come which are better than today.  I use to live in the past, often feeling sorry for myself or guilty for decisions I had made.  When I released the burden from my shoulders, I changed my focus.  If I were to be completely honest, I’d say I tend to be one who now lives in the future.  I am always seeing my life in one year’s time, five year’s time and beyond.  I am an optimistic go-getter it seems.

It is important to have a vision of a goal.  When you can see the end result as if it were a memory, you can make it happen.  At the same time, I have come to realise, everything I think, say and do today, shapes my forward motion.  The actions I perform today mirrors what my future is.  It is for this reason, I have decided now is the time to be living.  Each moment of each day shapes our experiences.  There really is only today.  At this moment right now, we are creating our memories of our past when we look back with fondness ten years from now.  With every experience  we have right now, we are creating our future.   It’s kind of like the idiom “take care of the pennies and the dollars take care of themselves.”  When we take care of today, tomorrow takes care of itself.

Today I choose to live my life in the now, knowing I am creating wonderful memories and experience yet to come.

Food for thought.  Today as you go about your day, be consciously aware of your thoughts and actions.  Know that what you are thinking, saying and doing, creates your future experiences and the wonderful memories you can recall when you are telling your grandchildren, family or friends all your amazing adventures and achievements. When We Tell Our Brain to Forget - It Does!

Many people believe the reason their memory is poor is due to getting older. Age has little to do with the reason these wonderful people forget. The reason people are becoming forgetful is because that is exactly what they are training their brain to do.

There is a common expression in many different languages around the world which is "Don't Forget". We use this often when we are doing our best to remind ourselves of important tasks and when we are being helpful to others. "Don't forget to pick up the milk." "Don't forget to call the doctor." "Don't forget to get this done." Unfortunately, this creates the exact opposite effect and does cause our mind become even more forgetful.

Our brain has an inherent ability to naturally filter information allowing us to focus on a task. For example, when we are at work and are sitting at our computer focused on a particular task, there are many things happening around us.   Such stimuli could be, colleagues chatting, the phone ringing, or, perhaps the cars driving past on the street. Because our mind is so focused on the task at hand, we barely hear or pay attention to other things going on around us. If our brain was to absorb every piece of stimuli happening at every moment of every day, we would have a very difficult time functioning. It is for this reason; our brain has been trained to filter what is not important allowing us to complete what is.

When we tell our brain "don't forget" our brain interprets this information as unimportant. When this happens, our brain filters the information, discards it and allows us to forget. Knowing this, it is important to begin training your brain to remember. Do this by changing the words "Don't forget" to "Remember to". "Remember to pick up the milk." "Remember to call the doctor." Saying and thinking "remember" tells our mind the information is important and therefore stores the data for later use.

There is a trick I like to do when I am networking or teaching a class. Many people are amazed by my ability to remember names easily. For most, remembering a face is far easier than remembering a name. As of today, this can be changed. When you meet someone for the first time and you wish to remember their name do this; as you are having a conversation with them, think in your mind, "remember (name here)". From the time you are first introduced to this person, to the point where you walk away, think the words "remember (name here)" three separate times. Make certain to wait a few moments between each thought so as to help solidify the memory. I can say with 99% conviction, you are more likely to remember the person's name! This same technique works for dates and numbers. If there is an important date or phone number you wish to remember and you are unable to write the information down, think "remember (date/number)" three times in your mind and voila you remember. If you choose to train your brain to remember, your mind would be sharp and recall instances with such clarity, others who trained their brain to forget, would be absolutely amazed.

Take a Moment to Breath

“Now is all we have.  Everything that has ever happened to you, and anything that is ever going to happen to you, is just a thought.” ~ Wayne Dyer

The reality is, life can be very stressful.  As much as each of us individually work to control our stress levels, outside influence play a role to which we may have little control.  The statement, our thoughts dictate our reality and from that our future is born, is in fact very true.  Many are aware of this and think that it is important to constantly think ahead and design what’s to come.  From this, they take very little time to enjoy what is round them in the moment and continue to experience the stress. The reason for this is,  s/he may think “When I do this I can look forward to...” or “Just deal with this a little longer and then I can do...”.  What happens here is, the stressful situation they are in is accentuated for the individual because s/he is focused on “dealing with it to move past it.”  It is important to forge ahead, and it is important to remind ourselves what we are achieving.  At the same time, it is important to have balance and joy by taking the time to live in the now.

To live in the now is to silently clear the mind, relax and enjoy the beauty around us.  In this moment we see the glories of nature, the uniqueness of everyone around us, and we feel the escape from all that is stressful into all that is beautiful.  With that said, take the time to sit or go for a walk and silently clear your mind and be an observer to all the amazing creations which are around you.  Feel the peace within you and remind yourself, you are a unique creation which is very much a part of the grand design.  Take a deep breath, smile and know all is as it is suppose to be.

Allowing this time to live in the now, gives us a sense of faith and courage to forge ahead knowing all is as it is meant and works out in our favour.
